The Role Global Citizenship Teacher

The Global Citizenship Teacher will inspire students to understand the world around them, think critically about global challenges, and develop the values and skills needed to become responsible global citizens. This role combines elements of humanities, ethics, wellbeing, and international-mindedness, and is central to the schools commitment to developing thoughtful and engaged young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons that explore themes such as identity, culture, diversity, human rights, sustainability, global conflict, social justice, and ethical decision-making.
  • Developing students skills in critical thinking, reasoning, debate, collaboration, and community engagement, ensuring they develop confidence in expressing their ideas and understanding differing viewpoints.
  • Creating a classroom environment that encourages open discussion, reflection, respectful communication, and curiosity about the wider world.
  • Differentiating instruction so that learners of varying abilities are supported, challenged, and able to participate meaningfully in lessons and discussions.
  • Integrating real-world issues into the curriculum and designing opportunities for students to explore current events, international case studies, and practical solutions to global challenges.
  • Assessing student progress through a range of formative and summative approaches and communicating outcomes clearly to students and parents.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to strengthen cross-curricular links, particularly with humanities, English, science, wellbeing, and service learning programmes.
  • Supporting wider school life by helping lead assemblies, events, community projects, or service-learning initiatives that promote global-mindedness.
  • Engaging in regular professional development to maintain strong subject knowledge and innovative teaching approaches related to global citizenship and international education.

Requirements

  • Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, B.Ed, QTS, or equivalent.
  • A degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience, preferably within an international school context.
  • Strong understanding of global citizenship education, inquiry-based learning, and values-based teaching.
  • Native or fluent English speaker.
  • A passion for helping young people develop empathy, global awareness, and ethical understanding.
